When working on a tune, I usually like to have a reference point during the first few hours of production—whether it’s a pitched-up or pitched-down sample, or a good acapella that brings out the kind of vibe I want to build around.

There’s no perfect rule or mantra to follow when starting a track, but most of the time I prefer to begin with the breakdown. To me, when a song starts in a good, distinctive and original way, while still feeling cohesive with what the drop brings to the table, it creates a great feeling—almost like telling the story of what you want to express.
